Respite Care is Self Care

What is respite care?  Some families that have a child with neurodiverse needs don’t even know that a service like this exists or the importance of utilizing them.  More challenging is when families do seek qualified services, they have an impossible time navigating who to trust with their child.

A recent article by the BBC touches on this topic and how a new campaign seeks to pair families in need with qualified respite care services.  The government in Scotland (The Highland Council) is realizing the acute need for families in their community and are actively working to expand respite care services.  In this instance, families travel over 100 miles to secure proper care.

A Mother quoted in this article talks about the challenges she faces, “Having no services and having nothing on offer is tiring, and it's very disappointing and depressing,” said Elizabeth Jones, “If we could just plan and have one night off a month it would be massive."

Qualified service providers like Sensory Sitters can help fill this gap and offer parents the respite care they deserve.  Whether it be occasional or emergency respite care, sitter services or even transportation parents should know they deserve a break and can use these services with the utmost of confidence their child is being left in the hands of caring and credentials professionals.
